Unit Request Thread 3

Drat and bother. Thanks for letting me know Tom.

I tried to recolor some of Sandris' units, and it didn't pan out. That and his units tend to have beards. Orcs don't have beards. :D

Please would somebody create a PACK MULE . This essential piece of military equipment has been used by armies throughout the ages from ancient times to the modern era and I am sure would be a very widely used "unit" as it is applicable to almost any scenario you can think of, from ancient Rome to the Chindits in WW2 and even in todays conflicts especially in mountainous terrain.
I think I might be right in suggesting that the US Army have only just recently abandoned the development of robotic mules ( if somebody is up for the challenge of creating a unit that upgrades through the eras )

In response to Don Pepito's question , yes invariably as a logistics unit ..all terrain, but slow moving.
In ancient/medieval scenarios I usually use pack mule trains (using Dark Sheers horse as the unit) to transport gold (Using the "treasure chest " unit,auto-produced by "tax collector" buildings) to newly conquested cities to speed city production. The AI obviously doesn't do this and will disband any mule train successfully attacked. Its time consuming but adds reality.

In a western US Cavalry scenario I use Mules to transport Gattling guns (this is historically accurate) or light field pieces., or "evacuate" wounded back to Forts (again historically accurate)

In my WW2 War in the Pacific scenario both Japanese and Chindits use mules in the Jungle or Mountains to transport light field pieces ( again the AI wont do this , unfortunately)

The great thing about CIV3 is that even within the limitations of the unit editor, if you are "creative" you can make up loads of things . As a stupid example in my ancient scenarios I flag elephants as "nuclear weapons" and then only have one type of sea transport capable (usually very expensive, slow and vulnerable) of "transporting nuclear weapons".
I dont know if that was helpful , but what I am trying to say is that there are loads of ways you could use pack mules as a unique logistical unit in almost any era

Dont want to bore anybody but supplementary to my response to Don Pepitos question
In my WW2 scenario I mark units such as Mortars , Land Mines , 20mm Flak , 2pdr/37mm Antitank guns, small artillery pieces less than 75mm, etc as a FOOT UNIT with 0 movement , and these are the payloads for mules

I think hovercrafts have been requested quite a few times here. If anyone wants to make one, there is free model here.

Wyrm made an LCAC some time ago; also 2 or 3 Ekranoplane-type "SEVs."

Best,

Oz

The coolest hovercraft are Terminator Hunter-Killers. You can find them, and a bunch of other free Terminator Models, including several versions of Ol' Red Eyes himself, HERE. They've assembled enough of a collection to make a plausible unit pack possible. We already have one Terminator in the Data Base, but he's lonely...

Hi again!

Would anybody be interested in creating THE most awesome aeroplane Transavia PL-12 Airtruk?

I mean: THAT PLANE, the one from Mad Max?

It doesn't have to be a real-life-accurate one model, may be just one with the whole "rusty image" version so it could be more usefull for SF, post-apo, steampunk scenarios, hence Transavia is extraordinary "weird" itself already :)

Also here is some link with info: http://www.fiddlersgreen.net/models/Aircraft/Air-Truk.html

Just a proposision guys'n'girl... ;)

"Fowler steam traction engines emerged most successfully from War Office trials in 1899 for engines to be employed in the South African war. As a consequence, machines built by John Fowler & Co. Ltd of Leeds represented by far the biggest proportion of the forty or so traction engines that were in South Africa by mid-1900 [...] The gun-carrying truck, mentioned above, inspired Lieut.-Colonel von Layriz, a prominent German military writer, to suggest that quick firing guns should be mounted on the wagons to act as a sort of mobile fort to protect bridges and other important points against flying columns of Boers. This idea was not adopted, but if it had it is interesting to speculate that it would have anticipated by many years some of the elements of the tank." - http://www.landships.freeservers.com/fowler_b5_armtract.htm

Should be of some interest to the "Steampunk Gang" as well ;)

Are those Exocets? Looks like it, but the last time I saw one up close was over 10 years ago.

We haven't had any *new Ancient units in a year.

Well I would like to see Xiongnu Khanate or Ancient Vietnamese Van Lang units but I need to find good images. Van Lang is definitely interesting because it lasted long period.
Văn Lang was the first nation of the ancient Vietnamese people, founded in 2879 BC and existing until 258 BC.
