Corporal punishment in schools is utterly hypocritical and ineffective as a means of behaviour management.
I really like that this is a multiple-choice poll so I can voice both my disdain for corporal punishment (corporal punishment! *salutes*) and my appreciation of Maggie Gyllenhaal in The Secretary![]()
It should be made illegal, no child deserves to be spanked!
I wouldn't say it was exactly common.Amazing. I wouldn't even believe it if it was a single person telling me about it, but it looks like this is actually legal and common there!America can still surprise me and it never seems to be with good things...
You really can't think of any better ways to deal with an unruly child?I wouldn't go this far. Certainly no child deserves to be abused. But even if it was through childish ignorance and bullheadedness I certainly when young was very intent on not being dissuaded from behaviors from time to time that could have harmed myself or another. If reason fails with a child(and it can), sometimes a painful but not injurious lesson may be helpful in bringing the lesson home. I'm talking a rap with a ruler or an ear-flick though, not a full on beating or anything.

Corrected you here.I wouldn't go this far. Certainly no adult deserves to be abused. We don't all agree with the death penalty.Corrected you here.
Anyway, the US still utilizes death penalty (although that is proably preferable to a lifetime in average US jail) - and then you say "basic legal protection" should invalidate corporal punishment? WTH
Although I grant that spanking in high school is downright bizarre.
Watch it. Good movie, very erotic.I googled that secretary clip since I've never seen that movie... WoW! I just don't know what to say.
If a teacher in highschool tried to hit me, I would have defended myself appropriately.

I don't really agree with this, but even if I would, it would still not be a teacher's call to resort to violence. They are really not anywhere close to be entitled to decide to "educate" other people's children that way. Teachers exist to impart knowledge, not discipline children.I wouldn't go this far. Why did I read "hit on me"?If a teacher in highschool tried to hit me, I would have defended myself appropriately.
Inform their parents. If they distract the class, throw them out, then inform the parents. What if children lack the discipline to learn, if I may ask?
It's in the Bible, people!
Then spare the rod and spoil the child - Part We Made Up 3:16
I dunno. I'm inclined to say no since it isn't the teachers responsibility to administer the spankings.
I'll tell you though that I did get swatted in the face by a teacher in kindergarten in Singapore for being a smart guy though! Not only that, she had the gem turned on the inside so it actually drew blood on my cheek. Naturally my folks were furious, I'm told that my mom actually saw the teacher in the same grocery store while I was with her and started screaming at her and naturally they tried to sue the school but the way it was set up in Singapore, there had to be a consensus by the school administration to allow it to happen and naturally all the teachers protected her.
