PREVIEWS: Future works

longboat is least needed (we *have* it) while clipper and galleas(?) look good and *are* needed. if you pump up the contrast they should look more cartoony and civ3-like.

Yeah, unfortunately, the ships are not nearly as maliable as the human characters and clothing are... I've tried exaggerating the x,y, and z scales somewhat, and the effects haven't been altogether encouraging, but I'll keep working and see what develops.

@Kindred: I will always love civ. I haven't played a game in months though, not a full one anyway. Even with Conquests out. Every time I start one, I find myself altering the mod for some reason and starting over.

I would like to note though that I purchased the models of the ships, and the none of the characters took more than an hour's worth of work to make since it's just a matter of going into the Civ3 setup, adding the character, adding the clothes, and adjusting them accordingly... it's the animating and storyboards that will be the REAL test and that will take more time. Just didn't want you to think I was spending hours modeling each individual article of clothing or ship part... ;)

Here's another unit I've been working on for the Native Americans that I've actually been wanting to do since even before I made my first unit.

I call him the Hunter... or Stalker possibly, but that has a bit of a negative connotation.

Anyway, this is based on hunting techniques of dressing in animal skins to confuse the prey... I thought it might make for an interesting kind of camo for a unit. Maybe it could have stealth ability... This guy is a sneaker, he's prowling in his default, in his run... the only time he's really upright is in the attack.

Which brings me to my question? What should his attack be? Spear? Bow? Tomahawk? Gun?

I mean, we have a warrior, spearman, and swordsman for the Iroquois. And we will soon have both an archer and longbowman replacement. I'm just not sure.

On the other hand, if I made it a spearman or javelin thrower, it could replace the spearman and the spearman Kinboat made could be bumped up to Pikeman...

Btw, I AM already currently animating one of these units, so don't think I'm just filling your heads with a lot of false hopes... ;) think of these previes as concept art... but as I am not as talented with the pencil and pen as Kal-El, I do it this way. It's a chance to hash out any problems before I go to the trouble of animating.

Club. He would be a perfect Iriquois warrior.

These all look awesome, could I make a couple requests?

A Qing/Manchu Infantry, basically a gunpowder unit

A cavalry unit from the same period

A New Army/Beiyang Infantry unit from around the 1890's

Yeah, but if he's gonna be a "hunter" (great idea, I might add), then club probably isn't the weapon of choice. Could you try a spear-thrower ("atalatl" in Aztec, I think)? That would be new and exciting. Otherwise, a bow would be the hunting weapon (and I think Amerindians held their bows horizontally, not verticallly like Europeans). You'd have to be pretty fast to hunt with a club. Unless you've got the guy digging pits and stuff. :)

Very cool, by the way, whatever you end up doing with these dudes.

 I've seen some beautiful Chinese units sketches at this page:

I hope that they will be available as soon as possible !
With Don Pedro II units, we will have, at last, a lot of Chinese infantry units. :D

But:
- No cavalry units
- No replacement for rifleman (a New Army Infantry unit from around the 1890's or a Warlords Armies Infantry around 1920's) :(

I've posted some pictures of New Army and Warlords Armies uniforms at this page :
http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?threadid=20728&perpage=20&display=&pagenumber=33

I hope somebody could created one of them.

What do you think about, Don Pedro ?
 :D

Maybe give the Hunter a short-bow attack? -- To represent his sneakyness and that he probably keeps himself hidden as much as possible. :) With a small bow and the furs (sp.) he would be nearly invisible. Just a thought...

All you units look great BTW! Looking forward especially to your Native AMerican and Asian units.

Dom Pedro II, please, I'm pleading with you, make your longboat. It looks amazing, and would be just wonderful to have. I need it! I have been for a while thinking about a Scandinavia scenario, and even had NaZ making a map for me (before he disappeared...), this would definately go in, with the Firaxis longboat, as maybe a weaker ship. Once you are done, I will probably start. If you are taking requests, then I would like to request any medieval, or late ancient scandinavian units. I need them for my scenario.

Also, the hunter looks good, IMO.

Mackel-Los... there will be cavalry units. I just haven't gotten around to modeling them yet. But never fear, they will be done too!

And I had been planning on making some rifleman/infantry flavor units for China provided I could find some good outfits to adjust.

The hunter would be best with a bow which is used horizantally. Being that I am Cherokee I know plenty of these hunters. These were basically the food gatherers and fur gatherers of so many woodland Native American tribes such as the Iroquois, Shawnee, Cherokee, Delaware, Choctaw, Algonquin, etc. If not a bow than a shorter spear which would be used much like a javelin.

I wouldn't call him a stalker.. these were for hunting and stalking (which basically means following closely). However the use of these for attacking would be.. quite odd because they never really attacked with animal furs although animal furs were sometimes used to designate higher warriors.

Nice unit though, you need to work on his head more because it looks to me like he's white and he has brown hair and nothing on his head at all except for his head. You also might want to make his cloak/cape more like animal fur than a clothe cape.
