The Nile Gift - scenario creation thread

Off the present subject of discussion, but I didn't see any mention of the old AOK Egyptian chariot in this thread.

@ Yabanjin : don't think we have a Civ3 version of it.

@ The Last Conformist, Arne, Maisse :
well, no pb for the chat. CFC was done so I did not see your answers and did not even know whether you had seen or not.

Map size : south. Well better to have it and cut it if we don't want it.
Actually I thought the Nile "curve" (???) was interesting. Because the Nile is navigable and it would look weird to have it coming from the South without the link between the two parts and because Kush is an "Egyptian" civ and Nubia another civ. But we cannot let Thebes be too big anyway so Kush does not have to be so much south. So we can some (then cut all the Nile curve).

TLC I agree with you we can have a small island representing Crete, and another the Sea People (if we put them in).

Second preview :

1) As we seem to agree on the limits for north, east and west, I started making some terrain
2) I take on me to keep Nubia. If necessary, I'll post two maps.
3) I added Crete in the upper-left corner.
4) I started to design the terrain.

Is it possible to make hills look, well, less grassy? That would be neat with all the hills in deserts we´re gonna have here.

There probably ought be more hills in Palestine. Looking good otherwise, I think.

I use to make maps step by step ;)
1) limits ( bmp )
2) general terrain ( bmp )
3) bmptobiq
4) detail terrains
5) other features ( starting locs, rivers,... )

As I'm still in step 1-2, most important questions so far :
What about Crete ?
Do we need another island for Sea People ?

Then I would go with hills, desert, mountains and all that kind of stuff ;)

BTW, what do you mean by "less grassy hills" ? Is it about the way they're located or the pcx graphics ?

Couldn't we use two kinds of hills? For example using mountains for normal hills and snowcaped mountains for desert hills (and hill gfx for mountains)? Well, I see. It's too late.

I must say it looks good !

I think he meant the pcx, nothing related to you whatsoever. But we would probably need a "landmark" hill with a more desert look.

For the Sea People, one very small (artificial) island will be enough.

I have started working on the pedia and pediaicons with what we have "decided" so I will post them soon here. Of course they are basic stuff that will need completing.

Allright, I go for next steps.

About hills, you're right it will be strange to have green hills in the desert. A desertic hill graphic would be nice.

Arghs, oh yes, there is still LMterrain... :D

I think, the main problem with the look of the LMhills is, they are using grasland terrain on base. Even if the hills gfx are looking more like desert hills, there will be grasland "around" them.

You could convert the grasslands to give them a more desertic look. And then make desert hills.

Or... but you should check if it's doable (is that a word?): Make a really large LM Hills graphics, so it would cover the unwanted grassland.

I agree, it was a very good idea for a mod. Hopefully, he'll return to finish it. If there's anything in Anno Domini that's useful, please use it :) .

yeah I was hoping he'd finish this great iea for a scenario!

LouLong yesterday posted a Civ4 Scenario Index and Review section up so hes definetly around.
